Here are some facts about Wayne Rooney, the English footballer.

  • Wayne Rooney was born on 24th October 1985 in Croxteth, Liverpool, England.
  • He is 5′ 9″ tall (1.75 metres).

  • Rooney joined Everton’s youth team at the age of 9 in 1996, and he made his professional debut for them at the age of sixteen in 2002.
  • He scored 6 Premier League goals in the 2002/3 season for Everton and another 9 in the 2003/4 season.
  • Rooney signed for Manchester United in 2004. He was only 18 and the transfer fee was £25.6 million.
  • He made his debut for Manchester United on 28th September 2004 against Fenerbache in the Champions League. He scored a hat-trick and recorded an assist.
  • Since his debut for Man Utd, Rooney has scored more than 200 goals in all competitions.
  • In 2009/10 Rooney won the PFA Player of the Year award, and he has won numerous Premier League titles with Manchester United.
  • Rooney has represented England more than 80 times and he has scored more than 35 goals for his country. He captained England for the first time in 2012.
  • He has been sent off twice in an England shirt – just like David Beckham.
  • In September 2015, Rooney scored his 50th international goal, making him England’s all-time leading goalscorer. He broke Bobby Charlton’s long-standing record of 49 international goals.
  • Wayne Rooney is married to Coleen Rooney and they have two children, Kai and Klay.
  • Wayne’s brother, John Rooney, is also a footballer. He has played for Macclesfield, Barnsley, the New York Red Bulls and Bury.
