Here are some facts about Princess Diana.
- Princess Diana was the first wife of HRH Prince Charles and was one of the most liked members of the Royal Family. She was also one of the most photographed women in the world.
- Princess Di, as she was often known, was born in 1961 in Norfolk. She was married to Charles from 1981 to 1996 and was killed in a car crash in Paris in August, 1997.
- Diana liked roller skating, swimming and skiing. She also liked animals but did not like horse riding, after falling from a horse in her teens.
- As a child Diana was shy and did not do well at school. On leaving school, she took an advanced cookery course and worked as a playgroup assistant and a dance instructor.
- The wedding of Charles and Diana in St. Paul’s Cathedral was watched by 750 million people in over 70 countries. Her funeral was watched by an estimated 2.5 billion people.
- Princess Diana was well-travelled as part of her Royal duties. She went on official visits to Japan, Indonesia, Nigeria, Brazil, Portugal and Saudi Arabia.
- Princess Diana was descended from Italian noble families and she is related to Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn. Her ancestors included Robert the Bruce and Mary, Queen of Scots.
- Diana was buried wearing a long black dress and holding rosary beads given by Mother Teresa. 36 oak trees, one for each of her years, lead to the lake and the island where she is buried.
